CV joint bolts and caps for bolts?
Right-side cv axle came off pretty easily today. I wanted to fix a clicking joint. This is my car's Christmas present! The hardest part was actually cleaning the bolts before twisting them off.
Got me thinking, I should go to a place like home depot and find plastic caps for these bolts, that slide on and off, so grime doesn't cake inside them. Has anyone done this?
Any tips on putting the bolts back in? I know these bolts are known to back out. So far I plan to just clean them well and torque them back in, of course in a star pattern. is loctite recommended?

do what the service manual says and you won't have a problem - I've only had them loosen when improperly torqued. if you have a source of air, you can blow the grime out of them pretty easily, just wear goggles or keep your eyes away from the stream of flying oily dirt. I think a rubber cap will just fly off with time.

All right, skipped the cap idea. Thanks for the input.
This job was actually pretty painless, even the cleaning. Everything I heard about "grease everywhere" wasn't a big deal. I had a big pack of napkins and it was fine. Besides, rotating that constant velocity joint in my hand was pretty cool. I packed about 100g of new grease into each joint. Now, I'm good to go.
