Stone guards
Dear SH: After you used the hair dryer on the old guard, did you use a scraper to remove the mess? and what kind of solvent should I use to finish cleaning them? Goo Gone, or brake cleaner work? If so, which? Getting ready to install some on my heap...Thanks, Tiger 03447

I used an actual heat gun on the second attempt... low heat setting. I used some sort of dull knife, like an oyster knife or something I had sitting around. Goo Gone was used with a rough rag to get it all completely off, it took patience but it's been a year and they still look like the day I put them on.
So, definitely purchase Aljolyn's set with confidence and take your time on the old guards.

Burning Brakes
So one of the large guards I got from sausage failed. It un-stuck itself then got really cold, then ripped and fell off, lol. Van is working on cutting me just the single piece I need.

Well I guess that confirms that.. Don't get the eBay ones. Sorry, if I had known they were a poor product I wouldn't have shipped them. I had assumed they failed on me because I didn't fully remove my old guards.

yes, all 6 of the stone guards in black; please let me know how to arrange this
what are your opinions of putting these on over top of the original guards, instead of removing them? all of the original guards show no sign of peeling after 26+ yrs (this is an '89 951), they are just yellowed and cracked and look terrible on a black car...I agree that in a perfect world, the old would be removed then the new applied, but so far, I can find no justification for this extra time/trouble, if I'm putting black over clear...someone commented that if I did apply over top of the old, I'd be doing it all over again shortly, but they provided no reasoning behind why they would not last, let say, 5-10 yrs...if there's a valid reason to remove the old first, I'd sure like to hear it...thanks

from re-looking at the beginning of the thread, I was of the understanding that you removed the old guards, but did not believe you removed all of the old adhesive, so they failed, is this correct?
