Default 924 starter - has anyone powdercoated their starter?

Hey folks....just joining this forum after having been a member of the 928 community. I have a recently acquired 1987 924S that I am planning to play with so I'll be reaching out to you a lot in the near future.

I'm currently having my starter rebuilt. Has anyone powdercoated their starter? My understanding is the stock starter has magnets mounted to the internal case. This concerns me as to if they can handle the high heat of the powdercoating.

Thanks!

Frank

Congrats on the new car! 924S's are cool.

Can't say I've ever heard of a powder coated starter. I took one apart once, and I think the magnets can be taken out.

I worked with magnets extensively, in ion thrusters, where they are subject to high temps. I think starters use Neodymium magnets, and powdercoating temps will definitely ruin those.

I'm sure the started being powdercoated would be fine. Your cure temperature is around 390*.
