Rear Wing Mounted from License Plate
When I was at Watkins Glen in October I saw a 951 with a rear wing mounted from the license plate bracket. I thought it looked pretty nice and have been thinking about installing one every since (see picture below.)
Does anyone know who sells these? I tried to do a google search but couldn't find anything.
I assume there is a mounting bracket from the inside as well which gives it structural support. I'm concerned there is enough metal in the area to give it support.
Would like to hear other people's opinions.

That's interesting.
I would bet there is a supporting structure on the inside of the trunk and that was a convenient attachment point. License plate holes are in a single layer of ~16ga sheet metal...

That wing attachment would require additional support inside the hatch as that area is single walled and not strong enough on it's own. The area above and below is double walled and quite strong. I used the upper area to mount a wing on Franky I a long ago. The lower mount of that wing did use the single walled area, but I built a structure on the back side for additional support.

Spencer and Tim are right - that area isn't strong enough on its own, so there must be supporting bracketry inside the trunk, too.
It looks like there's a sticker or logo on the top of the wing? Maybe that will give you some clues? Or, I think that's Bill Verberg's car next to it - perhaps he knows the name of his garage partner?

Mantissport will be producing something like the wing support seem above. The only issue really is that its abit wing specfic. The mounting ears of all the wings are different. Also very-one has different wing heights, in their minds. So hopefully we will by end of dec have a ladder frame mount for 944's, We produce a CF rear wing, 5.5 lbs, exact copy of the early GT3 wing which I have been using on my Cayman and SP3 944 s2. Approx cost $550 , thats for two side brackets, anodized. Rear wing is $1,750. Height is going to be determined by full scale windtunnel testing. Mantissport has access to it and both the Cayman and 944 S2 have been in there.

a frame would be really easy to build right there with the frame rails so convenient.
you could make it a bolt-on affair for street/track driving by using the license holes (although i would probably double up on mounting points, maybe brackets extending down to the bumper mounts too)

i run a 1700mm APR gtc500 wing. and it has some left and right movement which has been taken care of by two wire tensioner i made with inexpensive turnbuckles. have taken video and such at the track to monitor the movement. no wind tunnel testing tho
