Default Running hot

I have a 1980 924 that once I get it started and idling, the Y pipe glows red hot. It will idle nicely after a few minutes of start/stop but then I shut it down when I seen the exhaust. This car is new to me, and now I am wondering what I bought. Has anyone seen this before?
Thank you

If the car has a cat, I'd start there to see if it is plugged up. There may be something else blocking the system..somthing fell in while apart? I'm not sure how close the Y pipe is to the cyl head, but running super rich can also cause fuel to burn in the exhaust manifold eventually causing it to glow.

Good luck!
