Torque tube interchangeable?
Are early model and later model 944 torque tubes interchangeable? I have an early 85 that needs a new tube and I want to narrow the field of possible candidates
Thanks!
Thanks!

Iirc only the S2's and 968's were different. Plenty of pre-S2's and 951 tubes out there to choose from that would be an identical replacement.

The 944S2 and early 968 torque tubes have a split in them, they should be avoided.
The early 944 torque tubes did not have the hooks on them toward the transmission which were later put on for crash worthiness. If yours has them we would try to replace what you have.
Noisy, dry sounding bearings when the drive shaft is turned won't last long.
Also make sure the used replacement torque tube has a good drive shaft in it. The front end nub should be within specs so it won't cause vibration problems later. Also check the splines at both ends since we are seeing some come in with deformed splines.
Our website has a few pictures of what to look out for with the drive shafts.
Hope that helps,
