Default New short shifter

I just completed the install of one of Kyle's short shifters (only944.com) and it was a quality, easy swap. Only took 1/2 hour and made a huge difference in how the shifter feels. The 30% reduction in throw in all axis is what this car should have had from the factory. This is a must-have upgrade for your cars. You can't beat the $80 price tag, either.

When you start the install, I found that removing the front two screws holding the front of the muffler shield allowed the shield to move around and give added access to the shifting mechanisms. Remember to put the rubber bellows back on the shaft when installing the new unit. Definitely have someone hold the shift lever in the console before doing the final tightening of the bolts on the rear of the new unit. I chose to put the bolts in the top hole to reduce the side-to-side movement of the shifter and I really like it.

Ditto to the above. It's a great upgrade, Kyle makes some awesome stuff.

If you have a good amount of extensions like I do, you can actually avoid the muffler heat shield. However, thanks for that tip mytrplseven! I have u-joints which supposedly make this an even easier install, but didn't use them.

Installed mine today - super quick! I found that I did best laying under the car, but coming at it from the side with socket extensions (I used wobble extensions too - don't know if that was necessary but that's what I grabbed) I forgot to reinstall the rubber boot, but I'll do that another time.

I love it!!

Also - the best way to answer a question is experimentation, right? Per mine above, I can now gladly say that no, the Lindsey short shift lever + this kit is NOT too much throw reduction. The shift lever and this kit together have created what I have affectionately called "shifting nirvana" in my car.

I've had mine in for a couple of weeks. It's easily the best thing you can do to your car- shifting is precise and it seems to have tightened everything up a bit. A little notch-y compared to stock but in a good way. Can't recommend it enough- and at the price, you can't beat it

All good... 1/2 hour install. Shorter throw and narrower width as described. Great price for a part that actually makes a difference in the driveability aspect of the 944. "Makes you realize how far the OE shifter throw was 'before' this little gadget was installed!"
