I installed a schnell short shifter and second gear now grinds it way into place.

I'm thinking about the same shifter. Load like a nice piece. I just hope it's not like the other cheap ones on eBay that break all the time.

If its ****ty and fails I don't see a problem with trying to get your money back. It's for sure the beefiest/nicest looking one that's out there. Price ain't bad either.

I ordered one as soon as I got the email. This thing's definitely built tough, to coin a phrase. Shipped the next day.
