I'm not sure about an 83, but on my 951 and 968's it shows it in the head, has a spring and ball valve for one type of head and a completely different type for another head.

Damn thing says my pic is too big. There is NO hex for me to wrench on.......just round and an allen center.
My 951 is not this way. I have been reading for 2 weeks there is no mention of this. What the hell did this valve come from?

I'll head downstairs this afternoon to my '83 and see if mine is the same.

I know the OPRV on this model was updated later, but I'm not certain of the appearance of the original part.

Thank you sir I would appreciated that greatly....http://www.944online.com/pdf/oilcoolertech.pdf
The PDF never mentioned what I am seeing though. I just want to know what the deal is before I change the gasket out. Maybe it is from another kind of car?

Did you use the alignment tool to get it back in? Easy to strip?

When I get out that style of bolt, I place the allen socket in after soaking it with a bit of penetrating fluid, then give the allen socket a whack inwards with a hammer.

Normally loosens things quite a bit.

I also have a lot more luck with impact style removal of these bolts rather than gradual force.
As such, if it won't come out with my 1 foot long wrench, it gets the rattle gun :P

Is the bolt itself replaceable in the valve set up for cheap or is this a package deal? Say I strip or want to replace just the bolt. This is the 3 piece right?

Looks like a drain port. Torque 25 ft lbs and new crush washer

EDIT: Now I see it is Part 35

Can Part 35 be bought at a bolt store or what? I have a feeling that no matter what 80% chance this will strip. I can get it out still but what to do once it is out?

Yes I did use an alignment tool, the plunger slide in and out very easy with the hole aligned right , I didn't have any problem with mine stripping, just hurt like h#*l when it popped loose. I had bought the o-ring but this style only uses the washer at the end, no o-rings

If you brake it, it will only cost $$$ to fix it!!! you will be fine, just expect a 5 minute brake after that bad boy pops loose, the vibration is hell!!

Unfortunately, my engine is in too many pieces to identify it easily.

The oil cooler assembly is buried somewhere in my mountain of little clear plastic bags.
Sorry.
