It is the reality of human nature to bash, diminish, or ridicule what someone else likes or has. Sorry Randy V, just calling it like I see it! Truth be told, the world is a very ignorant place. That's my gloom and doom for the day. I'll cheer up now

White924: Seems you did what I'm planning to do and your sort of local. Would like to chat with you sometime as you have blazed the trail I'm planning on heading down.

Ps, Yes timing and waterpump were done with the top end rebuild after it overheated. Brakes, tires and axles are also done. Only known issues are a sloppy shifter -- which is likely to be the ball cup (if its similar to 928's) and AC inop. I also suspect motor mount failure as she had a vibrating at cold start and reading up on 924's - that's the symptom.

Please don't buy it lol.I called and talked to the owner Sunday morning but decided I would have more time to look at this weekend. Also I'm a past 911 owner and didn't know much about 924s.I posted a thread on this forum about the same car.I wanted to get more info from the 924 experts before I looked at it.I sold my 911 a few years ago and really priced out of the 911 market. This was going to be a daily driver.Let me know if you don't buy it.My 1990 Honda finally died and I'm without a car.My wife and I are trying to share one car.

Ouch. I feel bad. The seller told me he got three calls on Sunday and I guess you were one of them. Sorry, I got pictures of the car by email and went straight there and drove it. I committed to buy it on the spot. If it falls through for some reason I'll deff let you know.

I don't think it's really quite a DD if that gives you any comfort. There are issues as discussed in this thread. I'm guessing it needs another thousand in misc work to be reliable.

I don't know your circumstances but is a sign and drive lease on a Kia or Hyundai an option for you? If you have 1500 cash you could be in a new car tonight with a lower payment or use that money to make the first few payments over the next few months. Some deals I see advertised are no payments for a month or as much as a year. At least you know your not going to have breakdowns or stuck without a car when you have a new car warranty, loaners, etc. Just my 2 cents.

At least for a Porsche thread. I have never had a PPI done on any car I have ever owned, including all my 30 and 40yr old Datsun z cars, and both of my Porsches. If I was spending $50K on a used Porsche, then fine. But on any car that is sub $10K??? forget it. If you know that little about cars, you should think twice about owning such old cars to begin with. Not trying to sound like a jerk or anything, just putting out another perspective with regards to PPI's. Even a good one is no guarantee that the tranny doesn't fall apart 2 days later, or if it blows a HG etc etc.
Being prepared for a major repair either with $$$$ or know how and tools to do it yourself, is a must, if you want to remain happy with your purchase.

Good luck with your purchase if you follow through with it!

Good point. That being said, I would like to see underneath the car. It's my first time buying - shall I say - something NOT mint. FWIW I bought my 928 for much more money without a PPI and didn't have a worry - as it was beyond mint and clearly owned by a fanatic with records back to the window sticker. Buying a very cheap Porsche with no records - with issues I would consider unacceptable in any other situation - i.e. cracked windshield, huge dent in door, inop AC, rough cold idle, etc. means getting it on a lift is a small price to pay for piece of mind and a general safety check.

No problem, feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any specific questions or want to give me a call. I am going to be pretty swamped for the rest of this week, but I should have some free time this weekend and would be more than happy to talk to you about my experiences with the car and share some advice. I think that the 924S can definitely be a great car for both street and track. I can't wait until the weather warms up a bit more so I can drive my car more without worrying about snow or road salt!

The shifter is a somewhat common problem on these cars, but its a pretty cheap fix. The motor mounts go bad over time as well, so that wouldn't be completely surprising. They're a little more expensive, but not too bad.

Nicely bought. I keep being tempted by a 924 turbo as a fun restoration project - but I need to get my 928's more under control first

Default seats

Thanks. How can you fix the seats? I have an upholstery guy but thought that split seams can't be repaired.
