So the shop could only tell me 'it's in the clutch'. After bringing it to an awesome rennlist members place, it appears the throwout bearing has failed. Will inspect the clutch (930 clutch) and everything recommended by this thread (and him) to see what should be replaced. Just sucks because this was just 'unlucky' (or PO held the clutch down at lights... I) We'll see! Just wanted to provide an update. There was no warning or indication of a problem (though sometimes it was difficult to pull the car 'out' of gear, would have to redepress the clutch and try again).

For thread closure, the throw-out bearing failed premature (~30k miles). Replaced, and good to go.
