Default engine swaps

i was wondering about engine swaps, ive seen people talking about them and ive done plenty of them in other cars, but im new enough im sure what will work easily. i have an 87 944n/a and i would like between 260 - 300 hp in this car, dont care if its n/a or turbo. other 944 porsche chassis engine will bolt in the easiest.

texasperformanceconcepts.com

944hybrids.com

Same site one of the leading vendors and Chevy engine swaps. I plan to do this when my engine kills over, currently saving for a swap kit so I can be ready. I plan to do a 383 C.I.D. swap, good power and by doing a carb I save time on the install for wiring and such.

I'm all for the V8 swaps, don't get me wrong...but with a carb?

my advice would be to buy a turbo 944 or a 968. both motors (especially the turbo) can be modded within your range for a price. if you want a project that will cost more than buying another whole car, then transfer those motors into your na chassis.

Someday I'll either do a TDI or an Audi 20V 5-banger into a 944.

Since my 944S will be my daily driver once back on the road, I'm leaning towards the TDI. I would be cool to have a 40+ MPG 944

Whats wrong with carb? I saw a kit that coverts a LS1 to carb instead of fuel injection and it made more power. I understand fuel injection is better but I like the easy way out, I hate wiring.

There's a few guys on the 944hybrid forum that run a carb setup.

Agreed! Plus, you can tune them for pretty decent power and maintain the fuel mileage. A turbo transmission with tall gearing would be required, I think.

Mind you, the tractor-pull black smoke cloud when you floor it in a tuned diesel engine might require a car with dark paint...

after some research the ls1 route would be pretty neat. not to mention probably cheaper for parts and maintenance.

also turn key performance sells wiring kits for the ls1 swap so the wiring should be fairly straight forward.
