83 944 NA oil cooler question
I want to get rid of the internal oil cooler on the 83 944 because of past probelms with leaking and water oil mixing. Will a 944 turbo cooler housing adapt to the 83 block and use the external cool ? Has any one done this and is it worth pursuing.

Quick answer-yes, many track members use the turbo oil cooler on the NA.
But I see you have more serious problems in your first post:

oil cooler question
Thanks for the reply, After getting into the engine I see the #3 rod being spun. Hence the reason I was asking about the oil cooler from turbo for the NA engine, the date on the bearing was listed as 5/82 so they are the original bearing with 180k miles. although I baby this car it was just time to spin # 3 rod bearing. The other bearing look normal wear but I have order rod and mains from parts geek. 1000 grit sand paper with a rope to clean up crankshaft.

It's rare for that internal cooler to fail. It's normally the seals in there that cause the oil/coolant mix and fitting the turbo external cooler will not resolve the issue, the seals are still there.
If you are fitting a turbo cooler to fix the issue, it won't. If you have a need for better oil cooling then go ahead.

I want air cooled oil rather than water heated oil.
Thanks for the reply on the cooler, separate issue with the bearing spinning, this engine as over 220k miles and bottom end never touched. It has had all front and head work but never bottom. As for the oil cooler for a turbo on an NA engine, just seemed like a good idea since I would rather have air cooled oil then water heated oil.
