Not only do you have to take the transmission out of the car, you'll have to completely disassemble the tranny out to get the diff out.

In fact, I'd guess that your car has an early tranny (or 924s tranny) in it that doesn't have the speedo drive gear on the diff...

thanks guys. i think it's definitely this part causing me a problem. hopefully it's not the early 944 diff! also looks like i might be able to slide if off the diff if i take off the diff shaft out and the diff cup? what do you think?

Yes, ou just slide it out once you remove the white/yellow gear with the long shaft.

Old thread; but which part of this assembly is generally the most common failure part? Sensor, grey gear ring or the white/yellow shaft gear?
