Default Changing bolt pattern...

Just wondering if there's anyway to change the bolt pattern of the car without using adapters? Maybe new hubs in a different bolt pattern that bolts up to the car like oem?

Yes, you could machine new hubs to bolt up with different bolt spacing, but that would get expensive reallll quick.

If your heart is set on a set of wheels and you don't want to use adapters, have the wheel welded and re-drilled to the correct bolt spacing.

My friend Antti at 9Products.com has done it. He made hubs for his customers 911 to have a possibility to use 5 X 120 bolt pattern

Yes there are bolt changing adapters. You will likely end up with offset problems as modern Porsche cars use fairly high offsets. Most adapters are 12mm thick. The wheel that you are trying to adapt likely has a lower offset to start. Adapters also add around 4-5 pounds per corner. It is typically much better to use a wheel that is made for your car.

It is possible to re drill the hubs in some applications then press in studs or retap depending on the application: one exampe : 4 x 130 early VW beetle can be re drilled to 5 x 130 ( using one of the existing holes) to fit porsche wheels. Some 4 x 100 vw MK1 etc get more chalenging to avoid the original holes and all this should be laied out on cad / sketch with calculations or other method. Any final drilling would be done on a numerical digital readout X-Y machine at the least .

I have no problems running adapters but if changing the hub/bolt pattern were in the same price range then I'd go the hub route. The wheels I'm thinking of putting on has a high offset so I'll try them out this weekend to see if they'll even fit with the adapter.

Olli your friend Antti does nice work!

even if its the same price(its probably not), why change the hub in the spring/winter when you can just take off the adapters ?

i'm using 35 and 25mm adapters(bolted spacers from 5x130 to 5x130) on my 924 since 5-6 years now...drove ~3000km trips...drove on the Nurburgring..drove on bumpy mountaim roads in the Alps...drove on the highways in Germany...and no problems occured.

I ran 1" spacers/adapters for a while with a set of 993 turbo twist wheels and I never had a problem with them. I have an old set of reman Fuchs wheels that I designated for the winter but I never drive the car during winter.......too much salting going on here

Why not buy some used Phone dials or cookies if you have an early car? Phonies go for $200/set. A much less painful option.
