Weight is about right. I weighed my 951 before and after my LS1 conversion and it weighed basically the same, despite all the stuff I did. If I'd used the aluminum C5 Corvette bell housing it would've weighed less than stock.

Really? You think so? I think it's a pretty good deal. A decent 968 goes (no accidents, low-ish millage, good maintenance history, etc...) for at least 10-15k (yes there are cheaper ones, but not with out problems). A good conversion (depending on your involvement in the project) is around 6-10k. So 17k is not bad really when you thing about it the work and time that has been put into the project.
Can you say "SLEEPER!!!!" Our cars are not slow cars by any means, but this would be a great surprise to many unsuspecting drivers!

Costs a lot more than $6k for this conversion. You'll spend $3,000 on a junkyard LS1 with wiring harness and ECU alone, let alone the needed clutch, bell housing, bell housing adapter, headers, brake set up, motor mount uprights that this car has.
Oh yeah, and the 100+ hours of labor to accomplish the swap.
If this car had been for sale when I was looking for my 951, I would've bought it in a second.

What was the weight difference in the engines in your conversion?

doc nails it again. XSChop and Eric make it all work, but still costs a lot to do a conversion right. i'm at $9k just after getting most of the big swap parts, low-mile transmission and new gearing. but i still need to order the crate and about $4k more in parts including the custom wiring harness and hydroboost brake kit.... if i had the cash right now, i'd buy it. amazing deal since you're basically getting the roller for free.

what's the highway mileage like on the V8 conversions? GM cars get high 20s with the t56 because of the very short 6th gear... something lacking with both the 968 and 951 tranny.
Looks like he kept the AC on that. nifty.

Considering your trading a 4 cyl for an 8 i doubt the MPG is a reasonable complaint... i believe ive heard Mid 20s with the V8 on an early car conversion But the 968 is also a heavier vehicle so maybe lower mid 20s
