You want to use a cable gland or grommet, where the cable goes through the metal of fuse box and add a fuse. If you have an accident that is a guaranteed fire right there. Very dangerous. Why are you not hooking up directly to battery ?

That Orange cable was already.there along with 2 other wires I used those to pull that thick red cable through to the inside of the car. The power cable has a 50 amp blade fuse and will be directly hooked up to the battery.

Nice box dimensions ?? Love to make one myself. What sub are you going to use?? You could of got power at the battery and there is a rubber gommet in the firewall right there. But looks very good.

I don't understand what this wire is for/does if you are going to hook up power cable directly to battery. Regardless you need a fuse inside the fuse box for this cable. If your car was hit in a way that caused that wire to be cut where it goes through the metal, there is no fuse to blow and you have a dead short. Not good.

The main power cable should always be fused, as close to the battery as possible, for same reason. Its only there in case of that worse case scenario of a crash, or if you are silly enough to work on a live system and short it accidentally. It protects the car from the cable in the event of a short circuit. Its not there to protect the amp/s or other equipment.

That's exactly where I want to put my sub. is it an 8" sub? Will the box sit flush and are you planning to cover it with the carpet? Would it be possible to get the dimensions for the box? Looks good so far, but I do agree with the others on the fuse.

Putting insulation into box to "fool" sub into thinking it's in a bigger box, is an urban myth. It can change the QTS by a few Hz, which can be measured, but is impossible to hear. Save that for your house roof, as that will save you money on heating/cooling costs, in a sub box it does nothing.

Once again there is a fuse. So if that wire did get cut the fuse would blow instantly. I didn't show the fuse or where its hooked up to the battery. There is silicone around the wire insulation where it goes through the metal. So its not just rubbing against metal all the time.

I don't have dimensions for the box. Its a weird shape. KLA did a lot of work I'm sure getting this perfect.

The sub I am using is a JBL GTO804 reduced depth sub. Problem is it just barely doesn't fit in the box. I am going to audio store now to get some advice on what to do. I will try and post more pictures later.

Sorry, it's taken me a while to click your battery isn't in rear of car like mine. glad it's fused properly as you will more than likely need that fuse sooner rather than later. That silicone is really dodgy. Spend 20 cents and add a grommet or better still do it right with a cable gland. I have been messing with car audio for over 30 years and when I see something like that it rings alarm bells and I just hope no one copies your method.

Never heard of a cable gland. But that does sound like it would be nice.

I am about to remove one from my old car(tomorrow) so will post a pic for you. They clamp cable and seal it from water ingress. Ideal for use on firewalls, as they will even stop high pressure steam cleaner from letting water through into cabin. Phoenix Gold used to sell them but I now get mine from local electrical wholesaler, at about half the price. How is install progressing ? any new pics ?

I have more pics, but photobucket isn't working right now. I'm trying to figure out another way to upload pics.

In the first picture could someone tell me how I could fix that fabric material that is attached to the carpet can be fixed. On the other side mine ripped somehow when running my power wire. I would like to fix that. Could I just use some hockey tape?

I would like to add that the only way the JBL sub will fit in the KLA box is with a spacer ring. I used a 3/4" think MDF ring. Ordered it off ebay. My sub barely fit with that. I had to have a audio shop help me get it in there. Cost me $5 more to have them help, but it was totally worth it.
