Default aftermarket 951 air box

Anyone making an aftermarket air filter box for a 944 turbo? I have several original air filter boxes, but they all have warpage on the lower half and some have missing bolt tabs. I gather that most 951 air boxes will be that way, or if they happen to be sound, they are still brittle. I don't want a cone shaped air filter, I want to keep it original looking, so what are my options on getting a new manufacture box?

Alot of guys who run the big conical filter behind drivers heaadlight block off the hot air from engine bay by installing a piece of black plastic with seal on top to pull only fresh air from inside fender well! You can make it at tap plastics for $20 and get a generic seal for $10

Just buy a brand new one from Sunset Porsche in Oregon there prices are hands down the lowest in the world for OEM parts! I purchased a brand new air box 2 years ago it was $198 that came with top, bottom, snorkle, hardware w/ little band that holds intercooler pipe, new filter and Porsche cardboard box? How can you beat that? Everyone is trading 20 year old used boxes on e-bay and such that have cracked or maybe not but they will for what $100 - $150 when you can get the whole brand NEW sparkly one for $200

Still, it's a plastic box, and one may not need all of the associated bits, just the box...

If I was going to throw away $200, it would be on the coolant expansion tank... Those look great new.

Good to know. My Turbo S airbox is just on it last legs. Too bad I don't have $200 right now. At least is not hard to change.

And if you do get a new airbox, don't torque on the screws. They just need to be barely snug - they're not going anywhere.

Yeah, I have. My car came with a MAF, which I promptly ripped off and reinstalled the AFM and airbox from the parts car. Those tabs were already broken. I bought a replacement off of eBay that was in fair shape (some cracking on the threaded standoffs, but none were broken). First time I applied torque to a screw past the snug state, I heard the plastic crack.

Having learned from my experience, I bought a brand new airbox assembly (which doesn't come with a new rubber seal for the inner fender, BTW). I use the smallest screwdriver I can and only tighten them until the two plastic halves just touch - I'm not sure it even qualifies as "snug". Maybe "finger tight".

I still love the stock airbox look on the turbo. It may have a few down sides but to me it just looks right. My vote is get a new box..

Where did you buy this from? Lindsey? Looks a little different from their Maf trap.
