1.What car did you buy the clutch for?
1984 944 N/A
2.Which one did you get?
I got the master kit from 944online with the aftermarket italian disc
3.What was your experience with it; did you like it? Would you recommend it? Any problems with it?
Huge improvement over stock, great break-in, smooth as butter and am LOVING IT. Came with a sachs pressure plate, new hardware, new disc, i bought some torque tube bearings and after everything was replaced it drives like a new car. Mostly, except all the other crap that wishes it was new like the clutch. LOVE IT!

#1-'88 924S 61K----Replaced original rubber center disc with the OEM Sachs spring disc complete kit. New PP, disc & TO. Perfect as one can expect with OEM.

#2-'87 924S 116K---Replaced original rubber center disc with the "Italian made" Vertex/944online spring disc. Reused the OEM Sachs PP & TO from the '88. Repacked the TO. Machined & balanced the PP & FW ($125)
I like it. The disc is solid built and slightly thicker friction material than OEM. I like the solid plate construction attaching the center (no spacers!) to the friction material. I would buy again.

951S

Sachs

Project not finished yet, but before I'll install it, friction material will be switched for carbon friction material. Don't like organic stuff.

1.What car did you buy the clutch for? '84 944

2.Which one did you get? bought pieces here and there off ebay, Sachs except disc which was Clutchnet.com "green" (street) model

3.What was your experience with it; did you like it? Would you recommend it? Any problems with it? Clutchnet disc is on the thick side, but worked great, recommended. Total cost for parts was ~ $500.

1.What car did you buy the clutch for? '86 NA

2.Which one did you get? all Sachs, some used parts from RL'er (PP, RB with 1k miles)

3.What was your experience with it; did you like it? Would you recommend it? Any problems with it? less than 500 miles on it, chattering very noticeable, but reducing with miles. Appears to be because of rough flywheel surface. Total cost <$400

For a 3 or 4 thoudand $ car this is the way to go. I Used the Ford Bronco ll disk spaced out. The Ford disk needs to be spaced out about 1/2 in. to have clearance for the 944, for a 924 no mods are needed. Used existing FW and PP and had them machined. I then found a guy local who had about 10 used TO bearings to choose from. I found one that felt like new. Repacked the needle bearings on clutch fork rod. It also looks like the PO had put on a new slave cylinder in the last few years. Total of about $160 into the entire project and the cluch is perfect. I even put the clutch under the stress of some childish burnouts just for testing purposes.

Here is the car I used the ford clutch for. It is a nice clean 83 car that I only paid $1200 for, but I was not going to spend $700 for just the clutch when I had to do the wrenching myself.

1.What car did you buy the clutch for? '87 modified 951, 300 hp/tq

2.Which one did you get? Spec Stage 2

3.What was your experience with it; did you like it? Would you recommend it? Any problems with it? Break in was interesting, and I definitely stalled with it at first, but I highly recommend it. Barking tires all the way to 3rd gear is always really fun. It can be a little tough to get used to, but you just have to feed it more gas than usual. It's far more solid engagement than my stock one, and it should last a long time.

1.What car did you buy the clutch for? 951 3.1L

2.Which one did you get? KEP2 PP w/ stock flywheel and 930 disc

3.What was your experience with it; did you like it? Would you recommend it? Any problems with it? Installation was a breeze, but haven't driven it yet (car is still not running). Came highly recommended and another 3L car is using the same set-up.

For mildly modified cars, the KEP1 and 930 disc have been used with great success.

KEP Stage 2, Cup disk, new hydraulics, custom AN lines, and a new fork that was reinforced by Blazack.

I like it, probably too stiff for some but has a very linear feel and action. Unlike CenterForce and SPEC.

1.What car did you buy the clutch for? 1986 944 turbo

2.Which one did you get? Spec stage 3+ with semi aluminium PP(from their website)

3.What was your experience with it; did you like it? Would you recommend it? Any problems with it?
First it was chattery, and touchy. took a few stop starts to get use to.
after break in, felt good, smooth and very drivable. chatters on reverse a little. but i don't think it does anymore or i don't notice it.
engagement is like stock.

Running the Spec stage 3 kit with the aluminum pressure plate and flywheel on my 951, I like it a lot. It was a nightmarish, grabby bitch for the first 5k miles till it broke in, so it took a lot longer than an organic clutch to smooth out. It was so bad at first I contemplated taking it out, seriously the juddering especially in reverse was the worse of any car I've ever driven, ever. Now ~10k+ miles on it, its smooth as buttah. A lot of that is probably me getting used to it too and getting better at modulating it. The pedal is quite a bit stiffer than stock, to the extent that a friend of mine with a stock car that drove mine got in and immediately asked what was wrong with my clutch. The clutch is still very grabby, rev matching shifts or going back into gear after putting in the clutch while moving is not optional. It doesn't slip well, its pretty on/off and the engagement window is very small. I'd definitely buy the same clutch again for a car that was between 330-400 rwhp. I know it wont hold the torque from the stroker 16v motor I'm building, I'm still undecided on what I'll replace it with. Probably the spec stage 3+ as it holds more torque and is supposed to be a much smoother driving disc.

I use(d) the Rennbay disc, and oem TO bearing, fork bearings, and pressure plate bolts all sold by Travis on my 1986 NA. Cleaned the PP, and haven't had any issues. Feels the same as the original rubber center.

IMHO there is no need to use that ford disc unless you're in a third world country and cant find anything else. They look so janky, and if you cant afford a $125 disc, you cant afford a Porsche.....
