Default impulse sensor

When I bought my car the speedometer didn't. Today I went to check the impulse sensor but the problem is I cant find it. I looked at where it should be but I can't see the sensor or any wires going to it. Is this where it should be?

It's actually two pieces; an aluminum bottom that threads into the tranny and a plastic top that screws onto that. Easiest to remove together, the aluminum part has a hex to put a wrench on. Remove straight up, there is a plastic gear inside that hole and you don't want to knock it down into the tranny. It may come out with the sender.
