Hah the 918... I was looking at that earlier today and it made me want to sketch 944 inspired hatch designs!

I think the best looking thing would be a 3-piece hatch like the 928. D-pillars would really improve the looks of the car IMHO. The flat-back look doesn't work for the 944 - the fastback look does.

I would like to see something like an s2000 hard top style grafted into the look of a 944. It would accentuate the rear fender flares more and slope back hatchback style but be more narrow.

ehhhh I just hate the front. Also think the Z4's front is off a bit as well. I love the Z3... just with there was a good hard top option that looks as good as the Z4 coupes rear end.

I have been kicking this idea around for the last couple of years. I was thinking of making a new frame and fitting a 350z rear window. Similar to this fiero... http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum3/HTML/000053-43.html

madcurl is famous in the custom fiero world. He has made several wild fieros. Chop tops, lambo doors, rebodies he has done it all.

not a bad looking fiero, personally I wouldn't use the corvette c6 lights like it looks like he's using. Other than that great work.... I love using fiberglass to make custom cars, smells good too! lol ok it stinx but anyway.

I actually like the glass hatch. Maybe it dates the car, but 944's are so 80's it hurts, so its kinda part of the charm.

Maybe a fiberglass overlay that makes the back window look smaller and would bolt up where the factory trim pieces are:

Example 2 (with spoiler):
