Nice to see another local member! We need to get a local cruise/meet going.
Fabspeed is a great product, I think they only make system for 951. Most of the cops are ok unless you're driving like a maniac. Heck, all the muscle cars always running around with side dumps and all.

Good point.

In the spring we should get together. There are a few PCA etc. events around the city. Can't wait for the weather to get better.

Unfortunately you are correct. Our piping is designed only for the 944T/951.

I second the idea of a Chicago 944/951 meet in the spring also.

Counting down the days. S2 hasn't been started since November!

For sure, coming up fast! I'll have to get a new Chicago updated Chicago roll call thread.

We're practically neighbors
What are you doing up here in this weather? Shouldn't you be flocking back up North when it's warmer? We're suppose to finally hit 40s this weekend, I am busting out the shorts!

I was very concerned because the typical V8 swaps I've heard in person and on the internet have all been, imo, way too loud.

I had an idea this would work... and Eric Hill executed it to perfection.

COMING SOON: 'you'll think you died and went to V8 heaven.'

the exhaust note with the 2 Borla resonators (1 right after the other in the exhaust tunnel) then the Vibrant muffler
out the back, and the gasses being able to run unimpeded through 3 1/2" is really, really good.

I know it'll be down at least 20 hp from a duel exhaust. frankly, who cares? the compromise is totally worth it for a street car.

we got just the right amount of sound suppression, imo.

when you get on it a little, the sound is MASSIVE yet, the volume not loud at all....

to be honest this thing sounds BIGGER than I expected. bigger than an LS1 (or LS3) for sure.... more like a 427!!!

but, with the over-square block, it spools up to 4000 rpm FAST!!

and that sound....

Getting a large resonator up there will help make it a lot quieter.
The larger the better.

I'm running a 3 1/2 exhaust w/ 2 resonators in series in front of a big Magnaflow. It's a pretty quiet setup (now). But the V8 + huge headers is still preeminent, and the resonators are very minimal around the wide inner pipe. i've reached a point where i'd like things quieter still.

Recently i discovered these big triangle resonators that should take some of the edge off the V8 (as i desire an even quieter car). They'll fit perfectly in the triangular exhaust tunnel on the 968s. i'm not sure what or late 944s have the triangular tunnel section.

If you want the highest sound deadening possible, while keeping 100% open pipe--
These resonators will probably be ideal in place of highly restrictive stock oem exhausts, and still tame the loud I4's.

I'm sure it'll be even quieter for 2.5/3.0 Turbo's running the full muffler
Does the 944T have the triangular tunnel section like the 968?
*see TR Series Triangle at the bottom of the page.

After 30+ years, i'm sure most oem 944T exhausts have long since departed. But most n/a 968s are still running oem. In addition to the 968's exhaust being so heavy (in order to keep the n/a 3.0s w/ worn down motor mounts in check), the resonator is also far from ideal;

Incredible isn't it. You'd not believe it if you weren't seeing it through your own 2 eyes.
You see why open pipe allows a 968 to see a 22~27hp increase
(depending on tune)

@odurandina : Any idea if the S2 has the same exhaust setup as the 968 that is referenced above? Those models seem to fall into a weird hole with what's offered with exhaust options. As an example, I talked a little bit with Eastern Catalytic some time ago as they offer systems for 944s up to '88, then systems for 968s, but the S2s seems to just...not...exist.

It's been a bit since I got into my exhaust but I think that apart from a (poorly) replaced cat (and the band clamp that I installed to compensate for the crooked welds), most of my system is original.

It would be nice to tap into some of these 968 upgrades but it's never clear to me what will port over, and what won't.

Cheers

^^Not sure you should consult Lart and ask him to cut one up and check.
btw, the Euro 968 exhaust was rejected in America for being too loud.
i neglected to add that the 968 final muffler has a similar blockage,
only it's a semi circle blocking half the pipe---really restrictive!
