Default anyone repaired the lcd clock?

Just wondering if anyone has replaced parts on the clock circuit board. I shorted terminal 58 while trying to bench test it. It lights up when I apply 12 volts to terminals 30 and 15, but I get nothing when I put 12v to terminal 58. Also, when it's hooked up in the car it goes black when I turn the lights on. Is there a way I can bypass the connection on terminal 58.. or replace the part that was fried?

Also, this is the wire pinout that I was going off of:

30=battery power
58 =light switch (backlight)
15=ignition power
31=ground

If I remember correctly, I had to replace a bulb in mine and it became readable once again during the day.

See #19, Bulb 944.641.900.00

Good luck

David

Karl, I had a similar problem with one of my clocks. Mine would work but when I started the car or turned on the lights it went blank. The way I repaired it was to disconnect terminal 58 and 15. In order to get the light to work I pulled the bulb out of the light socket and installed an led (in the orignal bulb's plastic base) wired to the cigarette lighter bulb wires. You could wire in a bulb also to the cigarette lighter bulb. Now the clock works perfectly and I can see it at night.

Maybe I'll try disconnecting the wire to terminal 58 and see if that solves the problem. On the schematic it shows that wire as an open connection when the light switch is off. I assume it is just for dimming purposes, but the thing is already pretty dim in my opinion..

Hmmm...I guess mine isn't fully functioning as it has no backlight. I always wondered why they didn't make it light up at night, but I guess they did

From what I understand, the backlight is on full power whenever the ignition is turned on but goes to something less (set by the dash brightness **** probably) when the parking or headlights are turned on to prevent glare at night.

I am repairing these, and do list on ebay under 914rubber as the user name. The trick to knowing if your clock is working or not is to look at it from the side you should see the numbers. If it's dark, it's inop.

Usually it's a function of the LCD delamination. However, I have taken in a few that have cracked circut boards, that are toast.

The LED is a nice upgrade from the bulb, and it's about the same cost, so it's a no brainer.

I have been offering these as an excahge, that seems to be the best way. You can buy with a core and I refund the core upon return. I tried it the other way and it's harder to keep track.

I don't spend as much time on this forum as I would like, but PM me and I can get back to you.

Mine is keeping time but it looks like the outer clear "cover" has seperated from the rest of the clock in a half moon shape. You can see the top half of the numbers but it doesn't light up and the bottom half of the "moon" is unreadeable. Is the fixable?

It is fixable. It needs a new LCD, what you are describing is clasic delamination.
