I need to get steel lug nuts for my 944 to pass NASA spec.

Yup. Ball seat if you're running stock wheels. eBay seems to be as cheap as anyplace to get them. About $30 / set.

Now what did I just say a few posts up? Stock wheels = ball seat. Those are conical seat, you shouldn't use them on stock wheels.

Why is steel spec'd? Are the factory lug nuts weak?

Steel are stronger, and with the open ends you can quickly and visually verify thread engagement (especially important with aftermarket wheels)...that'd be my guess anyway.

Yeah you're right, so I should have said these work well for aftermarket wheels.
