The order is going to be placed this coming week, I would guestimate a week to ten days for fulfillment to Michigan, and then another 3-4 days for me to get them all boxed and shipped out.

Again sorry for the payment delay... was at the track all weekend. Just sent it on, with a note that my starter is for my NA race car and not a turbo, just in case.

Thanks again!

Last call! I'll let this run until 9 PM EST this evening. Those that have been invoiced, if you haven't already contacted me regarding payment by that time, I'm going to assume you're no longer in. I don't want to hold this up for everyone else who has already paid.

Wouldn't a vented solenoid be susceptible to accumulating moisture/dirt/oil inside of it (based on the position as installed on the 944/924s)?

I have one on order, but have a question.
Are these going to come ready to install on a 944 (1987n/a) or will they have to be adjusted.I read that they are adjustable for position to fit various models.I am not a total idiot, but just curious if they are ready to bolt up or if they come with instructions on how to adjust them for various models.

Maybe just asking this question will confirm if I am an idiot.

Better to ask than assume... and I'm with you.

No, it's a good question. The unit I sent in was a 944 rebuilt unit, the "slimmer" of the two typically available. The IMI version has been built to mimic the 944 starter as close as possible. The only difference I am aware of between the 944 starter and the earlier 931 starter is that the solenoid has to be rotated by 120° in order for the stock wiring harness to be used when swapping 944 starter onto a 931 (or vice versa).

In the case of the IMI unit, the solenoid is located in such a way that it is within 3° of the sample unit I sent in (according to my contact there), so I am confident that the stock harness from both cars will attach without requiring any modifications. I can't be 100% certain of this because I (like you) haven't had one in my hands, I'm only judging based on the photo (which I posted above). You will notice that the Gear Reduction unit has the motor and solenoid reversed relative to the stock item.

As for installation instructions, remove according to Haynes, and as the saying goes, installation is the reverse of removal I presume that you'll be able to figure out which lead goes where based on the sizes of the terminals.

Group buy is now CLOSED. I will be contacting IMI in the morning (PST) to get the order process and shipping logistics started.
