Post Throttle Cam

Ok, I have a question. I don't understand the hype behind a throttle response cam. I understand that it helps with throttle response and therefore helping you get moving faster, but is it "all that"? I was thinking about investing in one. What do you guys think? Is it worh it?

Yep, "That's all." Just changes the positional relationship between the pedal & the throttle plate in the throttle body. Makes the latter move quicker. No improvement in actual performance. No magic bullet.

Some folks here have "rolled their own" by cutting the 'lever' part off of the stock one, making it essentially round. Dunno how well it works.

Jim, noting that the similar part on the 968 is round from the factory...

Was one the first and best accessories I ever added. Quite simply, it makes the car drive better. The cam will not add horsepower, torque, or babe-magnetization. It will correct a flawed design, give you back complete control of the go pedal, and increase your bust size one full cup.

Sometimes good things are cheap.

Good Luck!

You can flip the part upside down drill a new hole and slot and it will be the same as the aftermarket part. I am really not impressed and I like it better when it is stock. My 944 that is on the way over to Germany has one on it. If you want it you can have it for free. I am going to take it off and put a normal one on when it gets here.

Yes, I understand that it does not add HP. I'm not looking for a "rice" upgrade.

Skip, do you sell them?

is it that hard for someone to make one for the S? not that I need one but It just seems like 16v n/a's don't have nearly as many bolt-on mods (enginewise) as normal n/a's. For example I've been looking for some hotwires for my S, and OF COURSE the S gets excluded from the list b/c it has different lengths. Ohhh, AND why cant S's be supercharged?? Is it that hard to count us in!!! It's just those liittle differences I'll quit whining now

I'd just like to see an S engine really beefed up

I did come up with one theory for the stock cam design. Isn't it possible that the airflow which the throttle controls may not be perfectly linear and therefore should not have a linear cam? The cam may have been designed that way on purpose. Just a thought.

Oh yeah, they do have a beefed up "S" engine. They made one pretty good one which they call the S2. Years later they beefed it up even more and called it the 968!

Just a little caveat emptor:

1. I've heard nothing but bad things about Partswerks

2. The starting bid is about $10 higher than the thing normally retails for - see (1.)

I have one on my 944 - I like it, but it came that way so I can't compare.

The real advantage of the throttle response cam is that it makes it easier to blip the throttle when downshifting. This is of course of little value for an automatic. The reason they are not made for 944S's and S2's is that they already come with a round cam from the factory.

I do if someone needs one special for an automatic or somtihng like that. Unless you need somthing special (powdercoated red or anadized some weird color) go ahead and pick one up from skip. I do recomend one though. Great upgrade that you can actualy feel when you drive.
