I love my Lightning (KB blowzilla with 16psi) but it feels lethargic compared to the 948. Tough to beat the way you can launch it though.

The Kenne Bell is a 2.3L and the Eaton is sitting in the attic, as I'll probably have to return it to stock to sell it. Are you looking for an M112? Yeah, they are really fun trucks.

I think I'm doing this conversion now that I bought a 99 Bimmer as my DD. I'll have more time to play with making my 948.

What should I set aside as a budget for this project? Is $10k and 12 months a good budget/timeline?

Depends what you want. Less time == more money.

But 10k is probably a good minimum for a "done right" conversion.

DVC, I was checking out the link in your signature..... MY GOD you have a nice car!! Magnificent......

Just based on the research I have done... and it all depends on the engine you go with (Pullout, crate, build it yourself, heads, cams..... etc etc etc), and what parts you buy that are already made (Renegade kit) etc etc etc... I think 10k is a good, clean, factory looking swap. That catch is, thats JUST the engine swap, no brakes, no 951 trans., no seats..... you get the idea.

Just saying, don't expect a car like Tony's or DVC's (name?) for 10k....

Well, a lot of the expense of Tony's car (dunno much about DVC's) was extra track-oriented bells and whistles. Lots of little gizmos on it that would be utterly wasted in a street driver.

I think a street car with a lot of the same characteristics could be done for about 20-25k, which is kind of what I am shooting for. That gives you some headroom to not only make it fast, but to make it safe, reliable, and attractive as well.

Of course, it's probably pretty easy to spend much more than that just through feature creep.

A couple of points
I talked with a guy at Roebling earlier this year who said he had about $5500 in it (he bought a used LS1 engine) It sounded absolutely awsome. I asked him about the weight and he too said about 60 # more than the 3.0L.
He said the best option was to go to the LS2 series with aluminum block that actually weighed less that the stock Porsche motor. That plus the slightly more powerful engine (I think) would definitely be the E ticket

He must have fabricated a lot of parts himself. That would mean that the expense was actually higher, he was just substituting his valuable time and expertise for the money he would have spent.

Yeah, apparently the answer the question "What LS engines can I use?" is "1, 2, or you're on your own."

I considered an LS3, just because they are quite a bit peppier for only a little more cash, but, as I wrote earlier, after driving Tony's 948, I quickly realized that extra power wasn't really a priority.

I may eventually drop an LS2 in, but that would be dead easy once everything else was in place.

Seat dimensions rule me out. Still, a very generous offer to the community.

Maybe you can discuss how much effort there was getting it through Cali DMV and the smog referee and all. Thanks. Michael

FYI ... there's a bare LS6 block on Ebay right now for $550.... looks nice. I want it, but wife used her veto. I've spent enough on the Porsche already this month...

OK, carrying on.... Whisper, I totally believe you when you say that Tony's 450 chp is more than enough, but my (wife calls) insanity just keeps telling me I need more. At night, I have dreams of a 740hp LS9 in my car. I know there is no way in hell that would ever happen (even though it would fit lol), but oh how awesome would that be......

Anyway, back to reality lol... I would love to get a ride in Tony's car just so I could feel it, but there is no way in hell I could fit in his car. I would pay for his time if he would swap a stock seat in his car for a day. My thoughts are to build either an LS2 or stroke an LS1/6. I'm shooting for 450whp. I feel like I could handle it, but then Whisper has to come along and say that 350ish is more than enough. I don't really care about hooking up off the line. I just want hard breathing, neck bending, cheek widening acceleration in all 5 gears. I want to go 175mph. I want crazy, not institutional crazy, just fun crazy.
