Can a missing front swaybar bushing cause.......
I finnally replaced my broken power steering pump today after it fell to pieces driving today. I had a good sed one in my garage but have been to lazy to replace the bad one in my car until it broke today. Anyway the old pump leaked everywhere underneath the car including on the sway bar bushing. The rubbver bushing complete fell off. The bushing is the second one from the right. Anyway, do you think that a missing bushing there could cause my left side suspension ti bottom out or at least not work well? My left side tire is scraping my fender well and scored the tires really well.

Ideally the sway bar carries no load as the car is sitting level, no pre-load. Does your tire rub as you are driving in a straight line, is this what you mean when you say the suspension is "bottoming out"? I doubt that the sway bar would be the reason if this is the case, I would look elsewhere for the cause.

I am not sure if it would cause that, but just replace it. It is a 15 minute job and the pieces (replace both sides) are about $6 each from Porsche. I know because I just replced my power steering pump and both of these bushings.

A tad off the subject, but... I was recently asking about the size of the power steering bolt recently. Last night after buying a few bolts to replace my missing one, I realized that I had been asking about the wrong bolt. I'm missing one from the upper mounting point. The one in front is threaded at both ends with a not in the center. I'm missing the back one, and I believe there is a sleeve of some sort that goes in as well? I checked the pet cd and couldn't see the back one? Any ideas?

It will cause a popping like a ball joint during slow turning. (parking lot)
the car will roll more in one direction than the other. Ask me how I know.
I'm driving w/o the front bar at all right now. I kind of like it! . I think I'm gonna get the front bar off a 924 or something though and the Mo30 rear bar

Pete-
Correct, to replace the bushings you need to remove the bar from the car. 12 bolts, 2 at each a-arm and 4 at each inner support. Installation is the reverse.
Cheers,

Well when I said my car bottoms out, it is when I am taking a corner, but never in a straight line. I replaced the bushing already and do notice a big difference when taking corners. It doesn't roll to one side as much.
When I installed the bushing, I simple made a straight cut on the bushing so I can slip in place right there at the mounting, instead of removing the bar and installing it through the ends (more work).
However I can see that my left wheel sits lower than my right. I think my left shock is the problem.
I just have to find some konis for a cheap price somewhere? Does anyone know where I can find some MO30 konis?

Pete, just a quick add to Riff's instructions... if the bushings are hard to slide onto the bar, soapy water makes a good lubricant. You may want to measure the diameter of the sway bar (unless you're sure it's the original stock bar; they're often upgraded) before ordering parts.

Thanks for the bushing install comments. I am wondering about the one who cut the bushings....What will that do in the long-term for the bushing? Will it last as long and be as effective?

It was me, that said about cutting the bushing on one side. You should be ok, the only reason these bushings fail is because they get exposed to oil, power steering fluid mostly and the elements. when they get exposed to these elements, they become swollen or soft and desentirgrate. But what ever floats your boat on installing the bushing is up to you. I just lazy and did it the faster way people have told me about doing. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
