Porsche 937 ???
Curious if these would be desirable cars. As far as I know there were only 406 made. What would a "project car" not running but complete be worth? Would it be worth restoring?
Thanks, Dean

Do you know of one for sale?
First I would try to determine which model is it, a regular 937 aka 924 Carrera GT, or a 924 Carrera GTS, or (doubt it) a GTR.
The GT will have full interior, the GTS will have sliding windows, rear cross bar and stripped race interior.
A perfect GTS I have seen for sale for 60k and regular old GT's go for maybe 10-15k depending on condition.

if its an actual Carrera GT its worth it for $1250, those audi engines are supposedly non interference

924 Carerra GT is definately collectable. Here's some info on the 924 boards:
http://www.924.org/models/CarreraGT.htm
They're pretty rare in the US; most of them stayed in Europe. I'd guess a GT would be worth $25k+, quite a bit more for a GTS. I'd mortgage the house and cash in the 401k for a GTR

Its all good...I was just yanking your chain. I'll take pics and if I pass on it I will post for others to see. The ad is really lacking. I already have a 82 928 project...don't need this but can pass it up if its that rare.

Unless it was repainted by someone its not a 937... they didn't come in dark green. Maybe its a 931 with a body kit or just a plain old 924 with a body kit or just a plain old 924. As far as non-interference engines are concerned, only the 924 NA is not an interference engine, the 924 Turbo and the 924 GT, GTS, GTR are all interference engines.
The chances of the car in Knoxville being a GT... slim to none. The seller would have to be a complete moron for selling so cheap. They trade in the UK and Europe for 30K, add in the exchange rate and shipping and you're looking at 45K US. Even a true 924 GT parts car here in the US would command 10K.

I've printed out the VIN info to identify a REAL 937 so we shall see. If its real I may drag it home. What about parts for a 937 motor wise? I did a ebay search and not ONE idem.

Parts? its basically an old audi van engine.
The intercooler itself is probably the most expensive part, then the turbo, after that it should be either audi or 924 turbo parts.

Here we go again with the misinformation... <groan>
Nice, doesn't even post what year it is. Presumably it's a 924 Turbo, with a jumped timing belt and of course then bent valves - like 931GT said.
You're vastly oversimplifying things if you think a 931 has an Audi van motor... that's like saying the 944 has Superbeetle rear suspension. If it were a GT, a large percentage of the parts are unique, not the least bit being that it'd be a grey-market car. Don't waste your time on ebay.
Back on topic; this will be a bent-up 931. It's up to you how much you wish to spend on a non-runner that'll need new, unavailable valves, but if the cosmetics are good, and it's an S2 (Series 2 - 81-82) it might be worth it - you'll just have to find replacement valves or head from a parted car. Semi-decent non-runners tend to go for anywhere between $500-1500, depending. Series 1 cars aren't worth much, IMO, for a number of reasons... just easier to go with an S2, get all the good stuff for free.
Maybe I'm just picky...
