Default My Project Thread - Butters944

Hello, been here a while, thought it's finally time to post about my car, and she's picture worthy now...

Last year I purchased my 1983 Porsche 944, and she has been quite the project.

Got her at 88k mi, had a seized water pump. First thing I did was wp, tb change (too much of a noob to know to change crankshaft seal... Now she leaks a bit. DOH!!). Also, the radiator fans were rigged up to a scary looking red switch on the center console lol. After fixing that, she ran beautifully!

Next up was interior. Living in CA and AZ its whole life, the carpet was destroyed. center console warped, weird dried red goop all over the glove box, ripped seats, steering wheel held together with electrical tape... Spent the longest time installing new carpet, new seats, all that stuff.

Car was originally sienna red, repainted who knows how long ago guards red. Paint was extremely oxidized. Cookie cutter wheels, I replaced with teledials. Front valance was destroyed.

The list goes on and on, but I won't bother you with all the other crap.

I spent the last couple days buffing out (3m compound) and waxing (zymol) the paint, surprised at how much life it still had! (enough to last through high school, until I have lots of money to repaint) Also, I got a used front valance with a couple tears in it, and repaired it this week. Made steel reinforcement plates and riveted them to the back side, used SEM bumper repair to fill in the tears and cover the rivets. Sanded it smooth and now it just needs paint.

Shes at 91,600 mi now, and I have taken pictures with my android phone here:

Have much higher res photos on my nice camera, will upload when I have computer access.

Thanks for checking out my project! Keith

Hah! You guys left money on the table! I've never paid more than $1200. For your entertainment and education, search for the thread, "How much does a $1200 944 cost?"

Good for both of you, you've got a 40 yr headstart on me!

I was off on the price. Neither of my cars hit the streets until they were $4k cars.

Also, I don't agree with people saying that the timing belt and water pump change is not something for most DIY'ers... I found it a great learning experience, with no special tools, for practically my first real mechanical work.
