Jstand,

I am in Shrewsbury. Thanks for the offer Banana. I checked the nut on the top of the strut last week. It's tight.

Curious what your ultimate solution was to this.

I have the exact same symptoms.

I am also having this issue. Is my strut bearing not situated correctly in the upper perch or mount? Very confusing problem.

If you have late style mounts, it is highly unlikely that the strut bearing would cause any side-to-side movement, as it is staked into the mount. Don't know about early style. As has been talked about before, it is better to look at wheel bearings and/or caster blocks.

I replaced my late strut mounts, but there was no side-to-side movement, the bearings had lost their seals and lubricant and were seized.

I'm interested in the final solution too.

I also had a thought that a loose sway bar mount/bushing/endlink may cause a popping sound as you unload/load the suspension.
