Sunroof Experts: please help
I have a 'simple' question, if there is such a thing with these cars.
My sunroof does not retract all the way to the "remove" position. I have the ignition in the first position and push the button and i get nothing. The sunroof tilts up and down fine, it just wont retract for removal. Ive visually checked the microswitches at the motor and everything is lined up properly (1 switch actuated, the other not). Does this mean that the relay is the culprit? Is there anyway i can bypass the relay to test this? Like run a jumper wire between the two plugs in the relay box where the sunroof relay goes. If so, does anyone know which two should be jumpered?
any and all help is appreciated <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

First try to turn it to the 2nd position and make sure it is all the way down. Sometimes a gentle push can make it go down a tiny bit and that will engage the sensors allowing the guides to be retraced. Try that first...its a free fix.

well what i do to improvise for the time being, is i just keep a socket wrench in the car and just retract it manually from the motor area. a half a turn of the wrench is usually enough to retract for removal. Im looking for the more permanent solution though

I had the exact same thing and after getting all kinds of " expensive' advice I got at it and found it was simple. The retracting arms didn't go down far enough and I guess that prevented switches from engaging, my guess, anyway I pried them down 1/8" and pulled the covers off the guides and cleaned everything up and put it together and re-tightened. It still wanted to bind so I backed the screws off a bit and lo and behold it works perfectly each and every.

How hard is it to replace that switch? Mine's acting up, and the sunroof doesn't always go up unless I stick a key or screwdriver in there to push the switch all the way in. Any thoughts?

Needs some soldering but replacement is easy.
You can also jump it without loosing functionality.
Just be carefull, there is no auto-stop at the hig lifting point anymore, so have the clutch set at the correct torque and LISTEN to the motor while lifting the roof.
Sajid: clean out the gear as suggested above.
If that fails, the switches on the motor have to be re-set.
Since normal opening / closing goes well, your relays look ok at first sight.
The quarter turn of the tool for manual opening worries me a bit, it should take more.
This could indicate that the arms are retracted too far in the close position. Again pointing at switch alignment on the motor unit.
These switches are generic SPDT, you can get them for a few bucks at Radio Shack or so.

Thanks! Currently, it won't lift all the way up anyway. And, worst case scenario, I've gotten pretty good at replacing those lift gears...

Due to the way they're curved and the friction they have it stays closed. All I have to do to open it is push up evenly in the center. It stays up fine even at (excessive) highway speed. I use a small screwdriver to push the arms all the way in when it's closed to disengage the arms so I can take the roof out. It's a lot simpler than it sounds and it won't break again.

If the arms will not retract for the removal it can only be two things....
1. Faulty switch between the sunvisors.
2. The second Microswitch is not getting "hit". It may be in the right spot, but it has to "click".
Don't go prying or poking at stuff - the sunroof is simple. Getting it to work right isn't that hard.

thanks guys, i guess ill check that microswitch then.
But just to get this straight then:
With the sunroof closed in the lock position, both microswitches at the motor have to be depressed? I thought only one of them did. And how would i go about adjusting the switch so it engages?
The microswitch in the front between the visors isnt the issue because i jumpered those wires.
