Post foam stuff under shifter

Where can I buy some more?
Is it really necessary?

Also does anyone know of any good machine shops in the Boston area?

Thanks

Don't know where to buy it, but i'm pretty sure it's necessary. Alot of heat is transmitted up through the hole and without the insulation it would get very hot. If you want to see, just take off the shifter boot and drive. I just installed an SFR short shift kit and i noticed mine was all falling apart. I'd be interested as well in a place to get this stuff.

I know of some who have replaced it approximately using the urethane expanding foam-in-a-can.

I did the foam in the can route, but made sure it was rated for heat and fire resistance. Probably a better insulator.

i have been driving around with no shifter (having a friend fix it up a little) and no foam...there is an annoying sound from the torque tube i presume.. but not a lot of heat comes in there, its warm but not the point that i feel uncomfrtable shifting.

its not NECESSARY, i dont think anythign will suffer due to lack of foam but its preferable in my opinoin

It's not in my car anymore either. In fact I have the foam block sitting here I just haven't felt like ripping the console apart to put it in yet. My dad ordered it from either Sunset Porsche or Hendrick Porsche I forget which..use the PET and get the part # if you want to replace it I guess.

Not a whole lot of heat comes through there but you do get some noise without it. Not an unreasonably annoying amount but there is some. Almost sound like a low hissing sound which I'm guessing is just drivetrain noise. Then again the foam block hasn't ever been there since I got the car so I don't notice it all that much anyway.

Jon Milledge Engineering. He's in Marshfield, south of Boston (before the cape). I happen to be in Manchester, NH for the next week and plan to stop in sometime next week.

Thanks Geo, I already gave him a call. I need to have my flywheel machined.
