Default Help! Cant remove oil pump drive gear! Wah!

Ok so im ready to remove the crank to do the bearings, and Mr. Oil pump drive gear is deciding to be a dirty little *****.

It will slide without hesitation all the way to the end of the crankshaft... then its like the sacred waters of a polar bears *** freezes it to the end of the crankshaft. Ive tried everything. Pry bar, lots of KY jelly... and WD40 too.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Do you regularly carry KY in your toolbox?

I have this problem every time. You won't believe what is causing it...

the crankshaft has small burrs on it you need to smooth out before the sleeve can slip off. The sleeve is a VERY tight fit so even the smallest bur will prevent the sleeve from coming off. Get some sandpaper and go at it, all around.

did you get the woodrift key out? If its out, pull the bolts from the oil pump and push the whole deal off gently w/ a pry bar. I agree about the small burs holding up that from coming off- i have a real fine file that i knock those down with.

There can also be burs in the woodruff key slot area - you may want to check that area as well.

BTW, use emory cloth, not sand paper. Its meant for fine sanding close clearances like that and doesn't leave paper fibers behind like sandpaper.
