My build thread
As spring (finally) approaches here in Canada, my build is coming to its completion (for now)
Started with an '83 944, mostly stock - minus a rennbay brake upgrade and some stereo work - with a failed clutch.
Decided instead of replacing the clutch, I'd save some money and keep my car garaged for a year and do what I wanted to do for a while, swap a 968 engine in... So I saved and purchased parts from some good folks (Matt Marks was amazing to deal with, sold me the 968 engine and it got here nicely with everything advertised) and some bad folks (See other threads I've posted in about my transaxle, no need to re-hash it here) but it finally reached the end.
Had the engine apart, cleaned, everything that showed wear replaced, and basically a new 968 engine in my 83, with a 944S LSD transaxle, 944S2 flywheel and a new SACHS clutch kit.
Here's some pics I took down the road, most of them speak for themselves I guess... Just thought I'd share.... Apologies in advance for the crappy pics, they're from my cell phone as I don't regularly have a digital cam on me... I'll get some better pics of the car once summer comes and I get her on the road for the first time in over a year
Basically all I need to wrap things up is an exhaust and fabricate a small curved piece of tubing and a cone filter... and a 14pin female connector which USPS has to bring me

Nicely done. How hard was figuring out the wiring for the connector that goes above the brake booster?
This is probably the path i am going to end up taking with my car.
Also are you using the S2 flywheel / clutch setup in the standard bell housing? If i do make this a project, i am going to try and utilize the shorter 968 tube so i can run the 2pc bell housing and the dual mass (or probably a Fidanza lightened) flywheel.

Techno: Needed the help of an electrician to sort out the wiring, and it's not complete yet as I just have the pins jammed in there to start/test it, I'm still waiting for the female 14 pin connector to finish everything up.
Yep I'm using the s2 flywheel/clutch and s trans (was supposed to be an S2 trans, but I got jipped) as when I was collecting parts I couldn't source a 968 LSD trans for a reasonable price, but good luck to you with that!
Pixel: Let's just say I spent too much, but I ended up with a clean swap that I can almost eat off of... If I start counting receipts for parts I might cry... In the end it doesn't matter because I'll never get what I put in back out, so I've made the decision that short of a terrible disaster where I'm extremely short on cash, this one is a lifer.
But to give you an idea...
968 engine which needed a rebuild due to a burnt exhaust valve
944S2 transaxle which ended up being a 944S transaxle
944S2 flywheel/clutch kit
New shifter rod/shifter
New belts
~2000 in parts/machining for the rebuild
Sent my speedo to VDO to have it repaired/set to 00000
Cost of an electrician
Lindsey Ultra mounts
968 Throttle cable
968 ignitor to dist wires... etc. etc.
Over the next little while I'll just be cleaning things up, like rennbay fuel lines, moving the cone filter under the nose panel, silicone vac lines, etc.

don't route it behind the headlight. route it under the header panel. it's good for quite a few HP. trust me, i have the dyno charts to prove it.

JG - I'll be going under the header panel later on, as I have an early car and I have to drill the spot welds to get the header panel off... and I'll be doing a turbo front end conversion with some type of header panel vents to the cone later on, but for now it'll have to stay behind the headlight until I'm ready to tackle the other stuff.
I've been watching your MAF/intake stuff pretty religiously and I have all your pics saved on my computer so I can do mine half as nicely when it's time

I had a few, but I lost most of them in a computer crash... Only 2 I managed to save were one Pirelli ad, stating that the best handling car had to have the best tires with the rear of a turbo/s2 pictured, and one with a 951 pic that said "It perfers Ferraris, but it's been known to snack on Corvettes"
Maybe we could make a thread for those types of pics? I wouldn't mind getting the ones I lost back.

The Intake works like the newer cars that have a flap in the intake that moves to allow air to use a different path low rpm to high rpm. It is just tuned to use the different ones without a flap.
