What engines will fit in my 87 944 2.5
What will fit in my 87 944 2.5 non S i need years and engine size. Will any 944S engines fit ? dont forget years and of the ones that will fit which ones are the better engines and or stronger of the ones that will interchange.

What do you mean by "fit"? ANY 944 engine, 968 engine, or 924 engine will physically fit in your car, with no mods to the mounting system. Let's ignore 924 engines becuase even the best one was just as powerful as the weakest 944 engine.
Since your car is the standard 2.5l, then the easiest swap would be for that same engine. All 944s from 1983 to 1988 used the same engine, though I think the computer changed in 1985.5 (and I guess the AFM along with it). The 87 and 88 924S used the same engine too.
Any 944 turbo, 944S, 944S2 or 968 engine will fit but will need new computers, wiring harness, etc. Any of these engines will require stronger gearboxes. The 968 engine will actually require more parts to mate the engine to the drivetrain.
The 1989 944 had the special 2.7l motor, which will fit but I don't know if it needs a new computer, since it's the same block, just stroked.

All the above engines will "physically " fit , but as mentioned other issues need to be addressed. I would not be dropping a turbo S engine into your 944 and expect to go for a safe drive without looking at brakes and suspension .
I think the question is why are you asking ? is yours dead ? , do you want more power ?

An LS-1 will bolt right in with the proper kit.
A big electric motor will also bolt right in.
There, I think that this, combined with the above posts, about covers all of the options.

I have one more option to throw in the mix. You can take a sawzall to a 928 motor, cut it in half, and then just JB Weld the open wound and stick that in.
