Installing a 968 Engine into 1987 944 NA
I am requesting information from anyone out there who has installed a 968 engine into a 944. I just purchased a 1993 968 engine and will be installing it into my 1987 944 NA.
I am looking for information that readers may have pertaining to wiring changes required to make the 968 harness / DME work in the 944 since I know that there is not a one-for-one relationship with the pin assignments.
I am aware of one change to add +12 volts to pin 12 on the connector to the Central Electric (fuze/relay) box. How many other changes need to be made and where?
Also, I believe that the 968 bell housing is larger (deeper) than the 944 8V bell housing requiring the use of a shorter torque tube (e.g. 968 torque tube). If so, is it possible to use the 944 8V bell housing on the 968, while using the 968 clutch and pressure plate (and thereby retaining the existing 944 torque tube)?
What other changes / modifications are required to make this work?
Thanks to all of you who can provide some information.

Thanks to those who have provided information. Does anybody know:
If I use the 968 bell housing (which is larger than the 944 8V) and I obtain a 968 torque tube -
(a) will the torque tube bolt to my existing 944 transaxle?
(b) will the torque tube be the correct length? (taking into the account the 968 bell housing and the existing 944 transaxle)
Thanks again for any guidance.

Your existing 944 transaxle should be removed - those things can't take much more than 160hp, so a 236hp 968 engine will blow that tranny in no time. I don't know about the torque tube, sorry. I have one of each car, though. I can go measure something if you need...

I think Tim used the S2 flywheel/clutch/bellhousing with the stock torque tube, and swapped in a 951 transaxle. Right Tim?!
The entire 968 drivetrain will bolt in, but you will have to figure out how to get a speedometer signal since the 968 uses the ABS system to measure speed.
