Default changing torque tube

I am attempting to change the torque tube on one of my brothers 944's. Do I have to drop the rear suspension to take the torque tube out?????? The previous owner left the torque tube unboted after clutch change and it ripped the torque tube appart.

No... it requires the tranny and exhaust out. I changed my torque tube when I did the clutch on my 944 Turbo. I left the rear suspension in the car.

How do you get the torque tube out of the car without dropping the rear suspension? There is no way. You would slide it back, it would hit the rear tire well, and you can't drop it down due to the torsion carrier. When i did my 86, there was no way in hell it was coming out without dropping the rear carrier, tranny, exhaust. On the other hand it is only about 10 bolts and it comes down. Couple of jacks, and a few stacks of bricks, and you are set.

Well I did mine a few years ago. I don't remember lowering the rear suspension.

Even if I did it dropping the rear tbar carrier an inch or two was no where near the effort to pull it out completely.

I could see dropping it 6 inches or less, thats what i did. I lowered it down a ways, and stacked a few bricks underneath the rotors and front arms, then i could get the torque tube out. Once you get the new TT in, just jack it straight back up into place.

I tried to remove the TT without dropping the suspension...

My suspension is now sitting on blocks of wood under the car, so ill give you one guess how possible it is to remove the torque tube with the suspension in place...

You can remove the torque tube if you have the Porsche snailshell tranny without removing the rear suspension, but if you have the Audi tranny, you must at least lower the rear suspension.

However, US 944's came with the Audi tranny.
