Default Knock-off Fuchs wheels

Anyone tried this set off ebay? If so how are they?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/16x7-...13483681QQrdZ1

Im looking for new wheels, and im a little tight on the cash. Im not too concerned with weight, as I understand this is the biggest draw back to knock-off wheels. Just curious about the quality of these. I searched and did not see any previous threads on this particular wheel. TIA.

I would stay away simply for the fact that you can tell they are replica from a MILE away. The spokes are just not right.. I mean, if they are gonna go thru the trouble of making a replica, AT LEAST make it an exact replica.

If you look at a set of Mille Milgia Cup2 replicas, you CANNOT distinguish them from OEM cup2 wheels.. (unless you know to look for numbers by the valve stem...)

I have the same wheels on my car(came on the car when I bought it) I can't complain, when I had a flat took off the rear 16x8 and it was pretty darn light. Tho I have been thinking about new wheels to make the car look a little 'updated'.

I don't think mine look bad.

It looks like the spokes on the real fuchs protrude out further then the spokes on the replicas. I may just give them a shot though if I cant find a real set in my price range that dont need refinishing. They really do look pretty decent.

Those are quality wheels. I remember a discussion on them at the Pelican forums. If you dont mind that they dont look exactly like fuchs, go for it!

Theres another ebayer who sells these and he can sell you a set of 4 8" fuchs for $50 more. Thats the route I would go. 245s all the way around!

Damn, since when do you own a 951? Love the color.

I've had a pair of reals and fakes right next to each other for comparison, they looked pretty much the same really (16X7's in 911 offset, not 951 offset). The fakes are a little heavier as they are cast, and have a little more material in the silver lip area of the rim (ie thicker). I personally think that they are a great way to go on a budget.

If you are contemplating on getting them for your 86 951, they won't clear the brakes. If you are thinking of them for your N/A, they will fit.

I was thinking about them for the 951. My understanding was that since its an 86, it is the correct offset, and as long as they are 16 inch wheels, they will clear the brakes fine. Is this wrong? That would suck. Which options do I have for an early offset 951 then?

Yeah Serge I just got it, and I love it!

Those fuchs are copies of 911 fuchs and will not clear your 951 brakes. That is why the factory created a special set of 951 fuchs when they made the 951. The 951 "petals" (if you look at the center of the wheel as being a flower) are shove a little farther out, and have less material in the back, when compared to the same sized 911 Fuch wheel. Outwardly, a 911 16X7 Fuch has the same dish appearance of a 951 16X8 Fuch. The 911 16X8 Fuch looks very deep, a lot like a 930 16X9 Fuch (which is also made to clear the large 917 calipers used on that model). The 16X8 911 Fuchs will not clear your front brakes either.

I have never seen a set of repro 951 Fuchs, to the best of my knowledge they don't exist.

Those repro fuchs will simply not clear the calipers on your 951, so don't waste your money on them.

For your 86 951, you are going to need 16" early phones, 951 Fuchs, any 17" or larger wheels. Also, every late offset 16" wheel should work (with the proper spacers of course). As far as 16" early offset aftermarket wheels go (like Ronal's, BBS, etc), I am not certain which clear the 951 calipers and which do not. I know that the BBS copies (TSW?) I used to have did not clear.

Tifo, these Fuchs in question on eBay are a NEW generation of replica Fuchs.

I agree, the older Fuchs replicas were almost indistinguishable from 5 feet, however these ones are cheaper copies. You can tell because the "petals" or spokes are totally straight, whereas the real fuchs and even the old replicas had curvy "coke bottle" "petals."

Rich, you could be right, as the repro fuchs I have ever dealt with are the ones from Performance/Mid-America, and older ones. I have never seen these in person from this company, the pics are hard to tell a difference (although the center cap looks a little funky).

Did anyone go to their website and check out what their retail on ONE wheel is? $629. OUCH.

So, then..................you are going to put them on your N/A?

Because either way, old or new, they won't fit on the 951. I hope I understood your comment properly.

I've seen too many non-Porsche OEM wheel failures. Go with Porsche brand wheels and you'll be better off.

IMHO,
