Had a spin in a 500hp 944 turbo today
I've never posted here in the 944 forum, but today I got to drive a special 944, hence this post -
This car makes 497hp at the flywheel according to Mario's dyno, same guy who built my 928 engine. This thing flies. They stuck us in one of the slower classes by mistake so I got to play axe murderer, lapping novice drivers in heavy metal 996's and GT2's within 8 laps, he-he. So what does Gabor's car feel like...? lemme try and explain it... It's rough around the edges, really rough. The windscreen is cracked. The carbon fibre doors, fender flares and hood are all warped and none of the panels line up properly. The roll cage is rough and unpainted with spots of rust here and there. Under the hood there are no polished aluminium or fancy anodized bits and pieces.
But don't let that fool ya. Underneath all of that this car is pure business. Plenty moolas ploughed into horse power, brakes, handling and weight saving. Gabor doesn't give a **** about looks. The "black bitch" as he calls it is a rebel, period.
Driving it... All I can say is wow! It will smoke stock GT2's no problem. With the power this thing has it's no surprise. Going up to Wesbank corner at kyalami race track feels like falling down a mineshaft in my 928. Brakes are good, but for some daft reason Gabor set the brake bias all the way to the front. This unsettled the rear end in tight corners and I got clutchlock off 2nd gear into Nashua and Clubhouse corners a few times, but that kickstarted my drifting genes. It can swing ***.
Fantastic day, I enjoyed this car. Life is good.
Cheers,
Pierre.
ps - Gabor is Hungarian. The dude in the passenger seat next to me is one of his Hungarian buddies, Nandor. I'll post some more pics soon.

Maybe Gabor cranked the brake bias forward so he could make some tasty Alex Zanardi style donuts

944 vs 928: 500 HP
I can't imagine what 944 500 hp car would be like (I want one!) but I can easily imagine a 500hp 928. Easy to do...but then you have to worry (on both cars) about drive train holding up and ESPECIALLY brakes. Going fast is great...stopping is more important.
How you'd get 500hp out of a 944 would be interesting, short of dropping another entirely different engine in it. Would be great though.
