Exclamation exclamation mark....what does it mean?

I have an 89 944. The exclamation light in the center of the instrument cluster has been lit up ever since i got the car. the car had front-end damage before i restored it. What does the exclamation mark mean.? It bugs me while im driving, i need it to go away!!!

Exclamation mark means put the hand brake down all the way, or, in less severe cases - not enough oil pressure!

It's a warning light.

I just use the " Massive amounts of smoke coming from under hood " warning before I really act on a problem

could be a brake pad sensor, low gas stuck... it's probably a " Some sort of gauge is out of spec "...

Like I stated, I am only used to the early ones ( the good ones ), but I will try to look it up if noone chimes in before hand...

Glad to see another SD/LA area person.

Often times the sensor gets bent down and the light will still be lit with the handbrake 'all the way down.' You can simply bend it up a bit and fix the problem (if thats what it is).

Check your other dash bulbs. There should be another light that comes on with it.

I don't have brake pad sensors anymore on my turbo and all i have is a constant brake pad warning light on the dash. Yes, i know I should fix that. Doesn't register through the exclaimation of death.

I have not found anything to fix the problem yet. I will try changing/checking the dash bulbs to see if any are out, because no other lights are displayed beside the exclamation of death.
