Default Starter Problem?

Hey guys,

A few days ago my '86 944 NA began loosing juice overnight. I would go in the morning to start the car, the battery gauge would be very low the starter would crank slowly and after 4-5 seconds would eventually start the car. The battery gauge would then be at 14+. The battery gauge would remain high or normal all day.

I would go out the next morning and the same thing.

Then a couple days went by and in the morning there isn’t enough juice to start the engine so I put a battery charge on and then it would start.

Now there isn’t enough juice, so I started the car with the battery charger still on the engine battery and plugged in, it then starts. But now when I put my foot on the brake or turn the lights on the battery gauge goes down.

Now today, I went to start it and it wont even turn over, I put the battery charger on it so its charged, but nothing, not even a clicking sound.

Someone said it was probably a starter that’s not grounded?

Any ideas?

Thanks as always!

I think your main grounds have internally broken down. I had similar problem, I replaced my grounds with dan wray's kit. ALL IS GOOD NOW.

One more thing...... Yu did not recently replace your car stereo lately did you?

Sounds like your battery is toast.

Technically, this is called a "dead battery".

I would suspect the battery first. Easy enough to load test that - most stores will do it for free in hopes of selling you a replacement.

Then move on to battery cables before you get to the starter itself. From your description it doesn't sound like the starter is the problem. The starter can suck many hundreds of amps. You don't give them those amps they don't want to even think about turning over.
