Default Ski Rack for 944

Anybody know if there is a ski rack available for S2's? The manual is vague, recommending only a "Genuine Porsche Roofrack". I just wanna go skiing... Any ideas?

Is there one for early 944's too? I would like to take the 944 skiing this winter, because i don't want to get the 968 in snow...

I can find the "Porsche Roof Transport System" for Boxters and 993s, but no 944 thus far...

I have a Thule system for my 944S2 to transport my track wheels to events. Works fantastic!

I bought the system about a year and a half ago - not sure if they still have the boot adapter for the 944 cars.

Z-man: no kidding... what Thule system did you get? And how was installation? Any drilling involved? I have also seen those "clip on" ski carriers that attach to the passenger side window (but not a real fan of that). Do tell...

Look on ebay every now and then an original pops up for sale, that is what the 2 screws on each side of the hatch area are for.

Billy: good tip. Never knew what those screws were for...

Anybody else have experience with aftermarket ski racks?

Both Sam Lin and I picked up a set of ski racks off of eBay that attaches to the rear hatch area -- two attachment points, one to the driver-side top hatch bolts and a second at the bumper. Will accept two pairs of skis (no snowboard). They are not from the factory, but was a dealer option (some manufacturer the pre-dates Thule and Yak racks).

I'll let mine go for $50 plus ship -- let me know if you're interested.

Sam lives in AZ, I live in SoCal -- neither location has seen snow since the Ice Ages.

Though honestly, the cargo area is plenty big enough for skis and snowboards.

As Joe says, there is/was a ski rack available.

I have a set of OEM Porsche roof racks. They are a very nice fit. Yes they mount to the screw holes under the hatch area.

I'd let them go for $200. I think I used them once before getting a wagon with a roof rack.

There was someone that posted one a while ago - I think the post was "cayanne conversion" or something like that

The ones Sam and I have are not those.

Actually, mine isn't ready for sale yet b/c the PO lost the darn keys -- I need to goto a locksmith to get a new set made....

The unit is the roof-rack system - four 'shoes' or boots clip under the rain gutter thingy on the roof, and there's two cross-bars to which I attach a Thule basket and tie my tires to.

Check with any sport shop that carries the Thule systems, and see if they can order the adapter kit for the 944. IIRC, there were only a few of the adapters left when I ordered mine!

josephsc-
That rack *kind of* looks like the one I used to see on the back of the performance Products catalogue years back... it rides 2 skis withteh contour of the hatch, right?

I always thought it looked cool like that! Sort of James-Bond ish?
