Here's a pic of Porsche original ski rack in place. Don't mind the minor scratches on the car

LOL that's great imagry. I was just thinking of that movie a few days ago and wondering if I could get a ski rack for the 944 like that.. Reminds me of Switzerland.

Since James Bond never drove a Porsche, does that make us one of the bad guys?

Does this harm the rain gutter thingies, especially with the weight of tires/rims? They don't seem that stout, but I could be wrong.

I have a roof rack made by Saris. It clips into the rain gutters, and works great. Their site says you need their medium bars to fit, but I made the small bar fit just fine. The rack/ rain gutters are more than strong enough, I have carried two kayaks on the roof at once without a problem, aside from the weird looks I get.

I think the saris is the coolest looking rack you can get for the car, and being able to remove quicker than the other ones is a plus to me. Downside is less choice on the rack-add-ons.

The Bond-movie was "For Your Eyes Only" and he had them attached to the back of a Lotus Esprit Turbo, I believe... Bond also had a skis (but no rack) for the Z8 in "The World is Not Enough"

We should suggest that Bond drive a Porsche in the next film!

Joe: so how easy is it to attach and detach your ski rack? Got any photos of what it looks like assembled on your car?

I have never mounted it -- heck I just realized that I don't have the key for it... but I just scanned in a photo from the installation page:

Very 70-ish look.

It looks like an easy install.

I'll see what I can do and let you know -- there's a code on the lock itself, and the locksmith might be able to figure out the key from that (if it's anything like our office locks, that'll be the case). If you want a set -- talk to Sam as well. He has less need for it than I -- he can't ski!

Sorry Sam, I didn't see Joe's response before you did... Are you selling your rack too? Did you use it at all?

I bought a Thule system last winter. Fitkit 034 if IIRC. According to the Thule guy who got if for me it was the next to last one Thule had and they aren't making them anymore. It took me two months of asking several stores and online outlets. The 928 Porsche rack is the same for the 944. I like my Thule but good luck finding one. Best bet is ebay for the Thule or here on Rennlist for a Porsche system. Try the 928 board.

Yep. Thule rack, fit kit 034. The rest is from a Nissan Maxima. Got my ski rack for the maxima, sold it, kept the rack, put it on the porsche for the cost of the fit kit ($45.00 IIRC)

Fits great, gas mileage goes down the sh*tter when it's on...so I keep it on for when I go to the mountains ONLY.

Here is a pic of it mounted on my 924S. fits all in the 944 series.

My one big issue with it is that it tore the hell out of my door seals, so when I repaint it, it's gonna go away for a while...
