Smoke coming from A/C Switch - Climate Control Panel
Hey Everyone,
I am having a strange problem on my 86 944.
Several months ago I was driving down the road with the A/C on when smoke starts coming out of the climate control panel. The A/C switch was melted internally and the A/C no longer worked. Circuit board was fried!!
I replaced the A/C control panel with a good used one and it did the same thing.
A/C Fuse and relay are fine.
This all started happening after I had the A/C system recharged.
What could be wrong?
Nick

You are not alone. I just had this "phenomenon" happen in my 86' 951.
I was trying to diagnose an ac problem and then all of a sudden smoke and a little flicker of a flame. I killed power and yanked that thing out so fast.
Here is where mine went south. I used it all day yesterday with no problem, but today it went camping. A little background. My ac clutch will not engage(I suspect now it is low on freon and needs to have the low pressure switch jumped briefly to suck some R134 in) But that is part of my problem, the other part is my original 86 climate control would not go from hot to cold.
