What has been the strangest thing you have found during your restoration?
I have been now restoring my 83' 944 for the past 3 months. This has been a very slow process since I am doing most of the work myself. A couple of times during the process, the car has failed to start up. I was sure the problem was electrical, so I took the oportunity to get someone to rewire the car. My instructions were simple: "find and fix my startup problem, fix up all useful wiring, and get rid of all useless or obsolete wiring you find."
A few days later I found out a couple of new things about my car.
1)I had a relay that that controled the fuel pump shot.
2)I had enough excess wiring to rewire the tristate area.
He found a "excalibure 700gt alarm system" that didn't work, a weird 6" x 4" x 2" black box conected to the antena, and a smaller 3" x 2" x 2" black phone jack box hidden under the center control panel. He has no idea what these things are but that they are not porsche or conected to the motor in any way.
What weird thing have you found installed in your car by it's previous owner?

I also found an alarm. I was replacing my throttle cable, had my head in the footwell, looked up, and heres this UGLY two tone beige plastic hobby box ziptied to my steering colum with this ugly clusterfu*k of wires.
Also discovered that the drivers window had been broken sometime in the past, which would explain the window rattle since I think the new one was installed wrong.

And for the thread poster, I bet that box connected to the antenna was an extra RF amplifier. That phone jack box may have been from a carphone install. Perhaps BOTH boxes are from a carphone install...

I found a montana phone book in my car, under the passenger seat....it was a small one, but it was a yellow pages for Helena...
This however isn't all that odd...the PO's were from montana..

Yeah, non-functional phone system, not hooked up AMP, non-functional alarm system, and about 20-30lbs of not used wiring.
In my 1948 Dodge i've found lots of interesting stuff, my favorite though it fell apart as i was examining it was the original build card for the car (had been rain soaked and had holes in it, i can order a new one though!) And lots of old change.

I haven't found anything worth noting in the 944. But when I was stripping my old Scirocco for a repaint, I found that the passenger side of my Cirrus Gray car was originally red, the front panel was black, but not sure what color the fender in between came from...
It did explain some things, though...
BB.
