Ressurection for a couple of idiots....
We are troubleshooting the "fan only works on position 4" problem, and can't find the *)(%&#)(*& resistor. Under the cowl by the fuse box, but where exactly? And what does it look like. We found the wiper motor, and some wiper linkage, but we are stuck right now. Probably a case of "if it were a snake it woulda bitten us" but.....
TIA!

It is on top of the blower motor, under that thin plastic cowl. You have to lift up the front of the cowl to see it, it's a white ceramic thing about 3" long with a plug with wires on top.
There are older threads detailing how to clean the contacts, many can be resurrected.

The issue is usually these little bimetal reed switches (overtemp sensors?) mounted on a block with the resistors. Pull the harness connector on the LH side of the fan assembly, and then remove the white plastic block (2 screws) it plugs into. Pull it up and out out and you will see them. I cleaned mine with a drop of battery acid, then flushed them with contact cleaner.

Comes out with two screws, as I recall. You can test it by dropping in a buddy's know good resistor pack.
Cleaning will buy you time, but will likely act up again. More bad news... Porsche only part, think it was about $150 when I bought it. OUCH!
Good news, you don't have to replace the blower motor or climate control unit. Now, them's real big dollars!

Cool. we finally found it, cleaned it once, nothing, cleaned again, worked temporarily. I know this is due to us not cleaning it that well. The battery acid is a good idea, we were having a heck of a time getting sandpaper in between the little copper discs...
