Default 1988 Porsche 924S

Hi

What size engines were available in a 1988 Porsche 924S. What are the differences between a 944 and a 924S? I currently have a 1987 944 and found a 924S for sale that is not running. Would this be a worthwhile difference to have the 924S. How would I know if the car had the original engine using the vin number, etc. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

The '88 924S had basically the same exact engine as the 944. The '88 model had a higher compression engine due to eurospec pistons. The '87 model 924S made 150hp, while the higher compression of the engine in the '88 boosted it to 160hp. In '88 they had a 'sport' option available, which including a stiffer suspension and rear swaybar making it a great auto-x or track car.

I think one of the main differences in the engine is that with fuel line routing. Im pretty sure all of the 924S models had the fuel line routing over the intake manifold. This was changed in the later cars, where the fuel lines are routed from the passenger side fender over the headers. The engine code should be M44/09.

The 924S is lighter and more aerodynamic than the 944, though personally i favor the wide body looks of the 944. I also believe the '88 is fairly uncommon (the 924S as whole is uncommon i think). Ive seen a total of two on the roads (not including the few i saw at Hershey Park). Most of the models i have seen pictures of were all 1987 models (like mine) though i can safley say im one of the only automatic 924S's i have ever seen (not that its a good thing )

Did you forget about me Duck??

You are correct in your description. the 88 has the 10.5:1 CR vs the 10.2:1 in the 86 and 87 924S. The specs on my car give me a 134 Mph top end (I know thats wrong!)

If you wanna see more 924S's come to 944 fest this year, Jason, Jeff and I will be there (That's 3 924S's- all rare guards red/black..)

Sorry Chris, didnt know you had an '88 .

If im not away at sea, id defenetley like to attend Hershey again. It was the first time i went last year, and to tell you the truth i was a little nervous going as it was my first 'long distance' road trip short of driving back and fourth from Trenton and Long Island. Im much more confident this time around, and hopefully will be making the ride in a 944 or 951 . Ill remember where i came from though!

Chris...CR is 10.2:1 on the 88....9.7:1 on the 87 Engine model M44.07/08

86/87 Model 44.05/06 has the 10.6:1 CR

All 87 924S have model 44.07/08 and the 88 is model 44.09/10 Dal

What cam & fuel injectors were used on the 88 motor's. Same ones from 85.5-87?
I assume the DME was revised for 88 also?

Not sure what else was changed as far as mapping, but I know the '88 DME uses a 28 pin eprom.
