Scary gas leak. FUEL RAIL YEAR?? 85.5 944 NA people NEEDED
Found a very scary gas leak.. i was working on my exhaust manifold bolts as i said in another thread, and i smelled gas. i had just run the car a few seconds.. and i looked around, and the pipe going above the 4th cylinder spark plug was dripping gas!!! that's pretty dangeroius huh? i tightend the 3 hose clamps to the right of that pipe, because it looked like that tube is where it was coming from, and no more leak it seems... whew.. thank god i noticed that. EVERYONE SHOULD AT LEAST LOOK AT YOUR ENGINE AND SMELL AROUND, WHETHER YOU WORK ON IT YOURSELF OR NOT!!! that's all i have to say, cuz i woulda gone kablooey otherwise.

There was a recall on some of these cars relative to the fuel lines in the engine bay. If you call Porsche Cars North America in Atlanta on Monday, have the VIN handy. They can look it up and tell you if it A) applied to your car, and B) has been fixed.
Each year, you will read about a couple of these cars having fires. Glad you caught this and are okay.

'm not 100% sure of this but I think if it is a safety recall, and leaking fuel lines would certainly fall under that, that it is a Federal law that the manufacturer has to repair no matter how old the car is.

Even if the recall was completed, you should replace that little short hose that goes from he fuel rail to the fuel pressure dampener. It's supposed to be nice and soft, not rock hard. Every one that I have replaced (on my car and friend's) had cracked as it was coming off. Yes, the recall has been done on ALL of these cars. Rubber ages, it hardens and can crack.
If your rubber hose isn't flexible (soft) then it's time to replace it.
Who cares about the recall??? All of those hoses should be replaced again! The recall was at least 15 years ago!

I called Porsche last year to confirm that my car had been taken in for replacement of the recalled part. It had, but when I asked they told me that Porsche would have still repaired it at their cost as part of the recall if it had not been taken in previously. Call Porsche with your VIN!

recall would do it for free hehe. alhtough it would cost zilch , but all those zilches add up, believe me. actually anyway, i think this might even be a hack job anyway.. ill show a pic in a few. because what i have doesnt sound like what you are talking about, and it looks like someone bent the metal tube itself... and way too many hose clamps...

Yeah, definatly aftermarket somehow then as the factory 'solution' has no hose clamps on any of the fuel lines, but rather just uses crimp connections. There is a bent metal line going from the fuel damper (above cyl #4) to a rubber hose going to the fuel rail.

wow, that looks NOTHING like how the setup is on my car....did it change that much from 85.5 - 87?
The line going from the fender to as far as that bolt in the back where it connects to the line with the hose clamps on it looks stock, but everything after that looks new to me. On mine that bolt you see back there was attached right to the fuel pressure regulator (that's the regulator on the back side by cyl #1 there), and my regulator was mounted 90* from how yours is, with a different mounting bracket.
