spring weight/koni setup question
I need an anlignment so I was thinking I might as well swap springs now if I'm gonna need an alignment anyway. I have the Koni yellows on now, and I was thinking about putting in 250-300# springs, probalby stock height. Is anybody else running a similar setup, and if so 1. how many #s are your springs, 2. What do you have the shocks set to, 3. how does the car feel (stiffness for everyday driving, harshness, etc.) 4. Is your car lowered at all?

250lbs is the highest you can go without going to coilovers on that car. That being said, 250lb springs are certainly harsher than stock, but they aren't too bad. I ran with that set up for a year with the Konis turned to full soft and it wasn't bad. In fact, it's funny to note that when I went to 400lb coilovers I really did not notice much more adverse effects on ride quality. But my car is not a daily driver and usually only sees smooth roads. YMMV.
It's important to note that if you go to 250lb springs, you really need to uprate the rear torsion bars to @ 28mm units, or go with a coilover kit in the rear (whether as a helper or standalone). Otherwise, your car will have a bad tendancy to understeer.
Good luck! This is certainly the time to upgrade things now before you get that alignment.

If you increase front spring rate only you just add understeer to a car that already understeers. If you put on 250lb front springs, you really need to upgrade to 26.5mm rear torsion bar (which is a spring). Then you need to change sway bars to something like 27mm front off an old turbo S and then a 22mm rear weltmeister bar which is adjustable. You're probably better off leaving stock unless you are tracking the car.

If you don't want the hassle of swapping T-bars or going to a coil-over in the rear, stick with 200# front springs as an option (drops front ~1.25", or can use a spacer to eliminate 1" of drop). Your car has the smallest of the standard torsion bars at 23.5mm. A popular/cost-effective combination for that specific car is the 200# Weltmeister springs, 26.8mm front sway bar (late model S2/951/968), drop the rear ~3/4" using eccentric (if not using the spring spacer), 19mm 3-way adjustable rear sway bar (968 M030). Initial setup for Konis seeing street use would be 1/2-1 turn from soft on the front and rear (to taste).
